Preparation of sodium alginate films incorporated with hydroalcoholic extract of Macrocystis pyrifera L.

Agroindustry needs novel materials to replace synthetic plastics. This article introduces sodium alginate films with antioxidant properties. The films, which were incorporated hydroalcoholic extract of Macrocystis pyrifera L., tested on sliced Hass avocados.
 research featured extracts M. pyrifera. Uncoated avocado halves served as control, while the experimental samples covered polymer film or without extract. A set experiments made it possible evaluate effect polymeric matrices, release kinetics, and sensory profile halved greater concentration increased content phenolic compounds their activity. As a result, bands in carboxylate groups became more intense. Crystallinity decreased, whereas opacity mass loss percentage increased, conglomerates appeared surface films. These processes fit KorsmeyerPeppas kinetic model because they resulted from combination diffusion swelling mechanisms films.
